Our first two kids got there dad’s dark skin and wonderful complexion. Our third has my fair and sensitive skin.
She’s been getting diaper rash that hasn’t been resolved by my go to treatment of airing out the diaper area and leaving her bare, diaperless for as long as possible.
Our standard calendula salve, ‘boo boo balm’ (https://www.healthyhomehelper.com/healing-calendula-salve/) just wasn’t enough.
Just for her, I decided to formulate a new calendula salve, with the added benefits of Shea butter.
Shea butter is a skin superfood! It is very moisturizing, thanks to the high levels of vitamins (A, E and F) and essential fatty acids (oleic, stearic, palmitic and linolenic).
These nutrients in Shea butter are necessary for collagen production in the skin, which allows the skin to rebuild and renew and prevents drying.
Shea butter was also found to help reduce skin inflammation and skin mutation. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/20484832/)
Shea butter is effective in soothing atopic dermatitis and can be used to heal stretch marks due to its’ naturally high vitamin E content.
Calendula salve with Shea butter:
– 15 grams beeswax
– 30 grams Shea butter
– 125 grams calendula infused almond oil
– 7 drops lavender essential oil
Melt beeswax Shea butter and almond oil in double boiler. Once melted remove from heat and add essential oil. Pour into molds. Allow cooling completely before capping.
