Coconut oil helps strengthen the skin's protective layer, lock in moisture inside, and keep skin plump and hydrated. Reduces inflammation. Coconut oil has anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it beneficial for irritated and irritated skin. Increases collagen production.
Coconut oil is an edible oil obtained from the meat of ripe coconuts and obtained from the coconut palm, a member of the Arecaceae family of plants. Despite their name, coconuts are technically not nuts, but stone fruits (a fruit with only one seed). Coconut oil has gained popularity around the world in recent years. It has a wide range of uses, from hair products to foods, sunscreens, and deodorants. Its tasty flavor and adaptable properties make it the perfect ingredient for many different products.
There are two main types of coconut oil: copra oil and virgin coconut oil. Although they are similar in fatty acid content, virgin coconut oil contains higher amounts of nutrients such as vitamin E and bioactive compounds such as polyphenols (plant materials with antioxidant properties). Virgin coconut oil is less processed than the refined version and retains its sweet tropical coconut-like flavor. Refined coconut oil is further processed, resulting in a more neutral smell and taste. Since it doesn't have the telltale tropical flavor, you can use the refined variety as the main cooking oil in a variety of recipes.

It also contains the following nutrients:
Lauric acid - is a saturated fat with antibacterial properties. It is found to effectively combat acne. It is s used for its skin repairing, anti-acne, detergent, and has cleansing properties.
Myristic acid - is common in facial cleansers because of its ability to wash away oils. It also helps keep skin hydrated and youthful in appearance, like most fatty acids.
Palmitic acid - As a fatty acid, palmitic acid can act as an emollient. When applied to the skin by lotions, creams, or bath oils, emollients can soften the skin and help it retain moisture by forming an oily, water-blocking layer that slows the loss of water through the skin.
Plant sterols - Plant sterols are a group of plant substances similar to cholesterol. They can help lower cholesterol levels by limiting the amount of cholesterol that can enter the body. Some plant sterols can also reduce the body's production of cholesterol.
Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) - MCTs are used with common medications to treat food intake disorders such as diarrhea, steatorrhea (fat digestion), celiac disease, liver disease, and digestive problems due to partial surgical removal of the stomach (gastrectomy) or intestine (syndrome of the short intestine).
What are the benefits of coconut oil to your skin?
1. Increases hydration
Coconut oil is one of those ingredients that helps the skin retain moisture. The lipids improve the barrier function of the skin, allowing it to feel supple and hydrated as a result. The coconut oil significantly improved skin hydration and was just as effective as mineral oil.
2. Reduces inflammation
Coconut oil is a safe and effective natural treatment for eczema. It has antimicrobial properties that make it effective in killing bacteria on the skin. It is also very hydrating and can reduce inflammation and discomfort. Coconut oil has anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for irritated, chafed skin.
3. Increases collagen production
Coconut oil has been linked to increased production of collagen (a natural protein found in the skin and responsible for its firmness and elasticity), thus preventing signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines in the skin. A study looked at the effects of coconut oil on rats and found a faster healing time for wounds. The researchers attributed this to the increased levels of collagen in coconut oil. Collagen itself is important for the elasticity of the skin. In fact, this makes your skin firmer and wrinkle-free. Also, the lauric acid content in coconut oil has a positive effect on collagen production.
4. Lightens dark patches
Coconut oil can lighten skin and may help reduce the appearance of dark spots or uneven skin tone. Adding lemon juice may enhance this effect. One of the best ways to deal with pigmentation is to add lemon juice, as it is packed with Vitamin C. It helps to repair damaged skin cells. Mix lemon juice with coconut oil and apply this mixture for 10-15 minutes.
Coconut oil makes a great pre-shave lubricant & may well make it so you don't need to use lotion after your shower. It's great for the cuticles & fingernails.
COCONUT-BASED BATH BOMB RECIPE
Ingredients:
8 ounces Baking Soda
4 ounces Citric Acid
1/2 cup Epsom Salt
2 tablespoons of Organic Coconut Oil
2 teaspoons witch hazel
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
30 drops of your favorite essential oil
Directions:
1. Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl.
2. In a small bowl, combine the coconut oil, witch hazel, and vanilla extract, and essential oils. Stir it well.
3. Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients a few drops at a time. Mix well with hands.
4. The mixture should hold together when squeezed without falling apart. You may need to add a little more witch hazel if it hasn't reached that consistency.
5. Quickly press the mixture into molds. Press firmly and leave to act for at least 24 hours (better 48 hours) or until it has hardened. It will expand a bit and that is normal. You can squeeze it into the mold several times while it dries to prevent it from expanding too much.
6. When dry, remove and store in an airtight container or bag.
